PLACE: HONDURAS - CATACAMAS and SAN LUIS

Summary:
This project is the second of a series of performances of the Spanish Lions with the collaboration of our Foundation, precursor of the idea of Latin American the Euro Committee. Because of the catastrophe caused by the Hurricane Mitch, the Spanish Lions gathered funds for the reconstruction of houses in Honduras with the collaboration of the LCIF. In this case two projects where developed one in a town called Catacamas and another one in San Luis.

Description:
The first one was the construction of houses in Catacamas. In this case there was a collaboration between several institutions (Committee of Inter-institutional Aid de Emergency), between which was our Foundation, with the money contributed by the Lions of Spain. Among other associations was, the Catholic Church, the Evangelical Mission of National Sanctity, and we, forming a colony of 70 houses, for 70 families with an average of 7 people, which makes about 490 beneficiaries in direct form. In addition the beneficiaries have been themselves forced to work a minimum of 180 hours to be able to credit themselves to one of these houses.

The houses where constructed in lots of land of 288 square meters, having the house 36 square meters, that consist of two dormitories, living room, kitchen, bath and internal sanitary service. The houses were constructed with floor tiles of prefabricated cement, ceiling of zinc, cured wood doors, windows of lattice window and floor of concrete. The beneficiaries are forced among other things not to sell the house in 8 years, they can’t be rented, or for example? "No one will be able have bars, brothels, nor gambling houses or any other activity that entail damages to the moral and public well-being". As they see, they think about everything.

The second project, was supported by the Lions Club of San Luis ' 98. Project that lasted 5 months, we must inform you that they constructed 18 houses and one classroom in the School of the same locality constructed by a Canadian organization. This classroom was given by the present Governor C.L. Ramon Rosa, day 22 of October of year 2000. The 18 houses were given in the month of June of the year 2000 by the Governor 99-2000 PDG Renato Lacayo.

Objective:
These are the words that the PCC Oswaldo Acevedo has transmitted me:

"I wish to give thanks in name of victims, for the that immense aid contributed by you. For me it was a very special, as it gave me the possibility to know the reality of my country, the nobility of the people that underwent until the limits of its existence, with the force of that monster called MITCH. The lions we have served in many localities in where have been constructed many houses, an asylum of old, a home of unprotected children, repair of schools..."
