The past 23 of June 2,001, the South of Peru suffered an earthquake of great proportions, which destroyed great part of the civil infrastructure, affecting of immediate way the form of life for almost all of the inhabitants of this territory. This earthquake, reached its maxim intensity (8.4º) in grounds of Moqueguanos, as a consequence it left death and destruction, difficult to surpass and to forget.

The education sector was destroyed or seriously, it left useless 50% of it’s installed capacity, which affects DIRECTLY to at least 30,000 children throughout the region. Day 22 of Julio, representatives of the Lions Club of Moquegua and Tacna were informed of the impossibility that they had to initiate the scholastic workings, for the previous reasons.

Often we have the tendency to give the money we get with our effort to other organizations and our proposal is that these funds are given to our Foundation and in the name of all the Lions of the World, LCIF can make a worthy and prestigious project.

These are the words of Gustavo Fraga Erracart, Senior Project Coordinator of Latin America and Caribbean from LCIF, Grants Department.

"I really believe the work done by Oscar and the Lions of Monquegua, has been a total success. The classrooms where better than what Oscar has promised, especially with the quality, design and esthetical aspect".

In a recent trip, he has visited the magnificent work, done by the Lions of Peru; the PID Oscar Elejalde has coordinated everything. In these pictures, you will be able to see the result of what we can achieve with the united effort of all the Clubs, logically one club can’t do a project of this size, but between all of us, the results can be spectacular.

Actually 10 of the 82 schools have been build, thanks to the generous contribution of the Swedish Lions and LCIF. There are still many schools to be built, and that depends on the generosity of the developed countries of the world. So I must please ask you to please be generous and consider donate a small quantity to the special account of LCIF. As "Designated Funds" for Peru in the account: "Peru Earthquake Relief - # 5047".
