CARLOS
DÍAZ |
SPANISH CERAMIC
FROM GRANADA (Andalusia) |
Carlos Diaz is a solitary craftsman, I would say a little bohemian. I never know when I am going to get more things from him. A couple of times year he calls, and says, "Hey Luis, I got some nice pieces, do you want them?" I always say yes of course, but unfortunately I always have very few pieces from him. He makes what is known as Andalusia Baroque style ceramic. A unique style made for the noble people during the 18th and 19th century. Many of these pieces are reproductions of old pieces, and others simply are copies from painting, as they don't exist any more. If you look at the page of Hermanos Rama, you will see a very simpler style, in matter of fact they started to work together. But finally separated, Carlos Diaz stayed in Granada and the two brothers went to Seville.
